House Bath (June):
I washed off the house, because the birds were
messing on it, and the spiders had webbed it up.
It looked pretty good after, but that night we came home
from errands after dark and were doing a bit of clean
up, when we discovered that the bath had not deterred
the spiders, only sent them into temporary hiding.
At one corner of the house, 3 spiders (each as large as
my thumb) were back out and spinning new webs.
New Equipment (May):
We bought a number of new things for the yard:
mole killer (to try to stop the tunneling that is
ruining the yard), ladder, hose caddy, trimming shears,
gardening gloves, spider repellent, etc.
Flowers and Garden:
Picture 1 Picture 2
I have a picture of our first flowers of the spring
posted. I worked on getting the old garden fence
out of the lawn. The garden was too big.
But...the fence is buried deep - not only the posts, but
the metal mesh. It's a nightmare to try to pull it
out. I have half given up. Instead, the
garden is now an interesting, exotic place. It
really kinda looks other-worldly.

Decorating for
Christmas (December):
Picture
For some reason I love decorating outside for
Christmas, but I find decorating inside to be a chore.
We purchased a juniper wreath, which had lovely blue
berries on it. We then got some new LED lights in
blue for the wreath, and paired that with a blue porch
light (which is kind of hard to see in the picture).
I loved coming home to that every night.
Shoveling Snow
(December):
We actually had quite a bit of snow in December
prior to Christmas. We don't have that much to
shovel, actually, but there is one problem. Our
driveway is stoned, not paved, so it is difficult to
shovel without shoveling rocks onto the lawn. We
ended up pretty much leaving it as it was. Chad
bought us each a new shovel. He made a path to
the back to making garbage transport easier, and also
cleared a place next to the mailbox to put the garbage.
Very thoughtful.
Raking Leaves (November):
We are at the end of our block, and we ended up
getting pretty pounded by leaves because most of the
rest of our neighbors didn't rake theirs. We were
especially grumpy with our next door neighbors, who
never mowed their lawn all summer, nor did any leaf
work. When the snow melted after Christmas, their
huge piles of leaves were uncovered again, and we are
afraid they will blow over again. We had 48
32-gallon bags of leaves when we were all done.
Mowing:
We ended up purchasing our first mower and edger.
We considered getting an electric one, but since the
house has ZERO outdoor outlets (!!) we wouldn't have
been able to use it. Chad, for the first time in
his life, actually enjoyed mowing, because it was for
his house. |
